Yesterday I was in sunny Konstanz for the Grosser-Spieletag II. I’ve been to a couple of the Seetroll organsed events so far and they’ve been fun if sometimes a little chaotic. This one was easily the best organised of the recent tournaments and a lot of fun.
Brief battle reports after the jump.

I’m going to stick these up here as a quick way to pad the content a little. These are a couple of figures I painted up for my old employers GOA as part of a series of hobby crossover articles. GOA run the Warhammer Online game in Europe and we thought it would be a good idea to showcase the rest of the Warhammer hobby to video games fans.
The first in the series was Grumlok and Gazbag, the Orc Warboss with Goblin Shaman limited edition miniature that was included in the WAR collector’s edition set. That was well recieved so I did a second article showing how to take an ingame character and recreate it in 3d on the tabletop. The figure I used was the plastic High Elf Archmage kit and I based it loosely on some of the original concept art for the MMO as well as some actual ingame themes like the Tome of Knowledge.
The articles are copyright of GOA so I shan’t reproduce them here but you can read about Grumlok and Gazbag and my Archmage on the WAR Herald site.
As well as the pictures on the WAR-Europe site I have a few extras in these galleries:

So I’ve been invited to take part in the European Team Challenge as a part of Team Ireland in the WFB competition. This is an insanely competitive tournament where every member of the team has to have a different army. As the last guy on the team I got what was left and, not being able to take my Dwarfs I was looking at a new army. Chaos Mortals were my first choice as I have a lot of those unpainted already (won in a raffle at GW Blanchardstown), they were taken though and my second choice of Lizardmen was also gone. Looking down the list of what was left, I picked up Chaos Daemons as the one I wouldn’t mind painting up in time for August.
So it is that I find myself here. The Lord of Change was a present from an Irish friend who realised he would never paint it. It was quite old and partially stuck together but was otherwise pretty much untouched. I chipped all the old glue off it, attacked it in several places with my Dremel and then dove straight in. ….Another blog that I’ll only be updating sporadically! Yay!
This is my space to talk about my hobby of wargaming and painting miniatures generally. I’ve just started painting up a new army (WFB Chaos Daemons) and I have a good number of tournaments coming up in the near future so this seems like a good place to start.
For the record, although I do enjoy tournaments I wouldn’t describe myself as a massively competitive player, mostly I play for fun and tournaments are simply an opportunity to get a bunch of games against new opponents rather than any driving need to validate my tactical skills.
I’ve been doing this for a while now. I started wargaming with 2nd ed. WFB and at one point was in the enviable position of being paid for my hobby. I spent a spell working for Games Workshop as a games developer and then as a White Dwarfer amongt other things. When I moved to Paris about 6 years ago, I gave away my wargames collection to various clubs and friends, since then I’ve got back into the hobby (mostly driven by my involvement in Warhammer Online) and am now thoroughly hooked on 28mm crack once again.
I have a WFB Dwarfs army fully painted as well as a sizable Warmachine Cryx force, I have a bunch of painted WH40k Eldar which will one day be the nucleus of a fully painted army as well as mostly unpainted Chaos Mortals and Chaos Daemons for WFB.
Please feel free to comment and give feedback on my work, the blog in general and any part of the hobby that interests you.
